Stockholm: A romantic getaway

Had I considered Stockholm a romantic destination? No! The truth is that Stockholm was positioned in my mind as a cultural, modern Scandinavian capital city. I had this vision of the Swedish economic system, with Ericsson, IKEA, H & M, and Absolut Vodka as the main international and wide spread brands.

The city is actually quite big to try exploring only by foot. There is a total of 14 islands connected by bridges. So you will not only see green areas, or areas with buildings, but you will also fin a lot of water.I would also recommend taking a hop on hop off sightseeing bus tour, this will help you admire most of the main areas in the city, get information and enjoy some marvelous vistas, and then you can decide where you want to go spend some extra time exploring.
One of the main stops should be Gamla Stan, the charming and rather big old part of town. Stroll around the winding streets and find restaurants, cafés and shops all around.Another must-see in the city, if you have the time and are interested in history and the way people used to live in the past in Nordic countries, is: Skansen Open- Air Museum. It is the oldest open air museum in the world and zoo.
You may even get a close encounter with birds, on the zoo area.We visited also the Music museum, where we learnt hands on about music. At the Vasa museum you can admire the only preserved 17th century ship in the world! Lots of exhibitions, information and videos make this the most visited museum in Scandinavia. In addition to the activities and attractions in the city, a great way to spend a romantic holiday with your loved one is enjoying good food at some of the many world-class restaurants available in the city.
